PROVINCE AND LILWAT SIGN HISTORIC LAND-USE AGREEMENT

WHISTLER - After several years of government-to-government negotiations, the Province and the Lilwat Nation have signed a historic land-use agreement that encompasses just under 800,000 hectares, Agriculture and Lands Minister Pat Bell and Lilwat Nation Chief Leonard Andrew announced.

B.C., TAKU RIVER TLINGIT BUILD PLAN FOR SUSTAINABILITY

ATLIN - The Province and the Taku River Tlingit First Nation are working together to create a plan for sustainable use of natural resources in northwestern B.C. and have signed a framework agreement to solidify their commitment, Agriculture and Lands Minister Pat Bell and Taku River Tlingit First Nation spokesperson Sandra Jack announced today.

$500K SPURS ECONOMIC GROWTH IN QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS

QUEEN CHARLOTTE - The Province is demonstrating its support for the communities of Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands by providing $500,000 to help create an office that will co-ordinate economic development opportunities on the islands, Agriculture and Lands Minister Pat Bell announced today at the Forest Service office in Queen Charlotte.

MILESTONE REACHED: COASTAL BC ON TARGET FOR EBM BY 2009

Forest resource development on the Central and North Coast of B.C. is now subject to a new legal framework that begins the process of establishing ecosystem-based management (EBM). Agriculture and Lands Minister Pat Bell made the announcement along with First Nations, industry representatives and environmentalists.
