4.1 Steps to a Published Standard for 1:20,000 TRI Data

[Back to TOC]

In order to achieve the goal of developing, evaluating and publishing standards for TRI data at the 1:20,000 scale, several steps should be followed. Those steps may include:

1.Review current 1:250,000 data standards and identify any potential improvements.

2.Test 1:250,000 TRI methods at a 1:20,000 scale through a series of regional pilot projects, intended to represent the Province’s diverse regions.

3.Evaluate the effectiveness of 1:20,000 data standards as tested.

4.Working with tourism industry representatives and a focus group of mapping, tourism and modelling experts, define a working set of data standards. Repeat testing as necessary.

5.When standards have gained approval of industry and experts, bring forward for RIC publication.

SBTC recommends following the steps outlined above to implement a process to publish 1:20,000 TRI data standards. The first step, an evaluation of current methods and data standards, is underway by means of a research grant provided to a B.C. university. SBTC is currently seeking funding to undertake the second step, pilot projects to test the method and consider alternatives. Once this is complete, industry representatives and experts are available to provide an evaluation of its effectiveness.

4.2 Delivery of RIC Standards for 1:20,000 TRI

[Back to TOC]

Should funding and resources become available, SBTC believes an inventory methodology and 1:20,000 TRI data standards can be tested in pilot projects in 1996, evaluated in early 1997, and forwarded to RIC for consideration and publication in the latter part of 1997.
