GeoBC: SQL Training
ABOUT THE TRAINING:
ESSENTIAL SQL FOR GIS ANALYSTS - is an instructor led SQL training course developed by Regional GeoBC for the geomatics community. This is the third in a series of internally developed and delivered training courses targeted at geomatics professionals. Feedback from previous courses has been overwhelmingly positive. Previously offered courses include:
- Programming Geoprocessing Scripts Using Python
- Geoprocessing with the File Geodatabase
- Introduction and overview of SQL and Oracle Databases
- Demonstrate how SQL can be used to enhance analytical capabilities of GIS analysts.
- Show how to move data between a GIS and Oracle databases.
- Instill some best practices on Oracle database uses to minimize impacts to Database Administrators.
- Familiar with the concept of what a database is.
- Be comfortable with basic computer operation (strong understanding of files, folders, file paths, etc)
- Have a practical application of the knowledge they will acquire from the course
- While GIS experience is not required, bear in mind that the course has been tailored for a GIS Analysis audience. Special emphasis is placed on reporting topics while other topics like DML and DDL are covered more superficially.

Costs
There are three different rates depending on the organization to which you belong.
The rates listed are the per person costs to participate in the SQL training.
BCTS now pays the same rates as other internal government staff.
